BEHIND THE LABEL
Tommy Newman
Tommy Newman is the founder of Slouch Records, a Los Angeles–based label championing the best in post-punk, dream pop, psych, and underground rock.
With a sharp ear for raw talent and a deep disdain for industry gatekeeping, Tommy built Slouch as an artist-first home for music that doesn’t beg for algorithms. Launched in the shadows of DIY venues and bar backrooms, Slouch Records has grown into a trusted curator of left-of-center sounds — blending smart curation, small-batch vinyl releases, and a punk ethic that’s allergic to hype.
Under Tommy’s direction, the label has released the Permanent Fixtures compilation and nurtured artists like El Colmo, Le Pain, Sonic Blossoms, UGHH, Street Fruit, Mask Appeal, and Alice Sandahl — each carving out their own warped, shimmering corner of the musical underground.
Tommy also owns Southtown Vinyl, an independent record store that doubles as a cultural nerve center for crate diggers and misfits. He’s the host of The Runout Groove, an FM radio show in Texas that blends deep cuts, rare finds, and sharp commentary into a sonic collage that reflects his genre-bending taste.
When not running the label or flipping records on air, Tommy can usually be found turning other strange ideas into reality.
